Be Light offers professional online counselling and therapy through flexible, fully virtual sessions, supporting your well-being wherever you are.

This practice offers gentle, effective support through EMDR and trauma-informed psychotherapy, helping you process past experiences that may still shape your emotions, relationships, and sense of self.

What We Can Support You With

Be Light provides online therapy for concerns commonly connected to unresolved stress or trauma, including:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally reactive

  • Burnout and nervous system exhaustion

  • Low mood or emotional numbness

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions and identity shifts

  • Relationship and attachment challenges

  • Self-esteem and inner criticism

You may come with a specific experience you want to process, or with a general sense that something from the past is still affecting the present. EMDR can help gently untangle these patterns so that change feels more natural and less effortful.

Meet Monique

Welcome to my private practice. My name is Monique McGrath, and I am a counselling therapist registered with the College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (LCT-C 22-061), as well as a music therapist accredited with the Canadian Association for Music Therapists (MTA 0534).

My professional background is grounded in music psychotherapy and cross-cultural mental health. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology from the University of Toronto.

I have completed certified training in trauma-informed therapy and EMDR, as well as CBT and naturopathy. My work is especially informed by an understanding of how trauma—personal, relational, cultural, and intergenerational—can live in the body and nervous system.

A Trauma-Informed, EMDR-Focused Approach

My work is holistic and client-centred, supporting the integration of mind, body, and emotional experience. EMDR allows us to work with memories and patterns that may not respond to talk therapy alone, helping the nervous system resolve what it has been holding onto.

Therapy is collaborative and paced with care. You remain in control throughout the process, and we only work with what feels manageable and safe. EMDR is not about reliving the past—it is about allowing the brain and body to complete unfinished processing so that the past no longer feels present.

What Working Together Can Feel Like

My practice is guided by a decolonizing lens that honours context, culture, and lived experience. I remain attentive to power, systems, and intergenerational trauma, and I value diverse ways of knowing and healing.

I strive to create a relational, respectful space where you are recognized as the expert in your own life. Our work is attuned, grounded, and responsive—moving at a pace that supports safety, curiosity, and self-compassion.

Healing is approached as a gentle process of remembering, reconnecting, and restoring trust in your inner wisdom. Together, we may process difficult experiences, explore recurring patterns, and build practical tools—supporting you to move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and lightness.

Grounded in trauma-informed care, I integrate EMDR, CBT, and somatic approaches to help process difficult experiences, explore patterns, and build practical tools—supporting healing, resilience, and meaningful change so you can move forward with greater clarity, self-trust, and lightness.

We acknowledge with respect and gratitude that New Brunswick is situated on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqey, Mi’gmaw, and Peskotomuhkati peoples.
